My application to sponsor my parents was refused...

Question of the day: My Application to sponsor my parents was refused on the ground that I do not meet the financial requirements. What can I do?

Refusals for Parental Sponsorships occur for many reasons, one of the most common grounds being that the sponsor does not have sufficient income to qualify as a sponsor.

In such cases an appeal can be made to the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board. The IAD has equitable jurisdiction, which means that the judge may allow the appeal on Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) grounds even if they are satisfied that the decision is correct in law.

Whether there are sufficient H&C grounds can only be evaluated on a case by case basis. Note: These appeals must be made within 30 days of the sponsor’s receipt of the refusal decision in writing.
